Tuesday, April 22, 2025, is the 55th anniversary of the first Earth Day in 1970, and on Gabriola there are many different ways to participate.
Gabiola Elementary School’s Earth Day Parade around the Village begins in the GES parking lot at 1:00 Tuesday afternoon. Everyone’s invited to join.
Gabriola Land & Trails Trust (GaLTT) presents its island-wide Earth Day Invasives Blitz this coming week. Full info at the link.
In the Village, The Refillery and neighbouring Swap Shop promote reuse by reducing plastics and keeping used clothing out of the waste stream. Both shops are giving away Earth Day door prizes on Tuesday.
The Blue Heron Learning Society’s recently launched Gabriola Carbon Action Project (GCAP) enables Gabriolans to offset their carbon emissions by investing in local projects. The society has also acquired a biochar kiln that can be used to improve soil and sequester carbon from organic matter. See BlueHeronLearning.ca for info.
