Water on Gabriola

Unlike urban areas, on Gabriola Island there are limits to the availability of freshwater. Not only is water shared by all residents (and flora and fauna), it is subject to large seasonal variations, influenced by a changing climate.

The Climate-12 Water Team has produced Household Water on Gabriola Island: An Information Guide for Homeowners and Residents — a comprehensive information guide on the design and maintenance of typical household water systems. Click the thumbnail or this link to download (PDF, 34 pages).

The Guide has been reviewed by the RDN, and provides easily understood information (with links to reliable sources) on water quality and safety, drilled wells, rainwater harvesting, septic systems, greywater, assessing a water system, and water conservancy and stewardship.
