Gabriola Climate-12 is an ongoing, local climate action project that began in September 2022. It brings Gabriolans together to look at wicked problems related to climate change, and generate local solutions to reduce our GHG emissions and mitigate climate impacts.

For info on (and results from) the initial 12-12-12 project, see this page.

Action Teams

CLIMATE-12 ACTION began August 2023 and is ongoing. There are currently (Oct. 2023) six Action Teams starting work, advancing local climate projects in their topic areas. Linked below are (PDF) tables showing community priorities for each topic area, as established by “dot-vote” at the Climate Cafe in August 2023.

  1. Agriculture & Food Securitypriorities
  2. Biodiversitypriorities
  3. Buildings & Energypriorities
  4. Economic Changepriorities
  5. Health & Well-Beingpriorities
  6. Transportationpriorities
  7. Waterpriorities

Two additional Teams have a broader, more fluid mandate:

  • Arts & Culture
  • Indigenous Ways of Knowing

Notes from the Action Teams’ regular meetings are available below.

To inquire about any of the Action Teams, or join a Team to work with like-minded people on local action on the biggest environmental problem of our lives, email us at GabriolaClimate12@gmail.com and we’ll put you in touch with the Team Convenor, who keeps each team organized and focused.

The organizers

We are the “Coordinating Group” for this year’s Climate-12 Action project. We keep the project on track, handle communications, and seek funding. We also organize bi-monthly “Team Convenor” meetings for updates and cross-pollination of ideas, and provide general support to all Action Teams in advocacy, research, fundraising and organizing. We can be reached at GabriolaClimate12@gmail.com.
