Gabriola Climate-12 Action!

Gabriola Climate-12 logo

Gabriola Climate-12 Action is the second phase of the Gabriola Climate 12-12-12 project, which ran September 2022 to August 2023. It brought locals together for 12 months, to look at 12 wicked problems related to climate change, and generate 12 (and more) solutions to reduce Gabriola’s climate emissions and mitigate coming climate impacts. More info on the 12-12-12 project on this page.

CLIMATE-12 ACTION began late August 2023 and is ongoing. There are currently (Oct. 2023) six Action Teams starting work, advancing climate-change projects in their topic areas. Linked below are (PDF) tables showing community priorities for each topic area, as established by “dot-vote” at the Climate Cafe in August 2023.

  1. Agriculture & Food Securitypriorities
  2. Biodiversitypriorities
  3. Buildings & Energypriorities
  4. Economic Changepriorities
  5. Health & Well-Beingpriorities
  6. Transportationpriorities
  7. Waterpriorities

Two additional Teams have a broader, more fluid mandate, and will inform many initiatives of all the above Teams. These are:

  • Arts & Culture
  • Indigenous Ways of Knowing

Notes from the Action Teams’ regular meetings are available below.

Join us for action!

To inquire about any of the above Action Teams, or join a Team to work with like-minded people on local action on the biggest environmental problem of our lives, email us at Climate12Action@gmail.com and we’ll put you in touch with the Team Convenor, who keeps each team organized and focused.

The organizers

The organizers of last year’s Climate 12-12-12 project are now a “steering group” for this year’s Climate-12 Action project. We organize monthly Team Convenor meetings for updates and cross-pollination of ideas, and provide general support to all Action Teams in advocacy, research, fundraising and organizing. We can be reached at Climate12Action@gmail.com.
